Job Description

Examples of Duties
UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION
  • Collaborates with subject matter consultants and media/training staff to evaluate and plan productions
  • Ensures lighting positions, sound enhancement, and proper recording equipment are in place to capture the best images in a variety of locations
  • Records footage for staged and unscripted scenes
  • Generates questions and conducts recorded interviews independently
  • Cuts and edits images to remove bad or extraneous footage, to add effects such as graphics or transitions, and to create a professional video product
  • Writes scripts for various video productions
  • Operates equipment including cameras, editing console, time base correctors, audio board, and video switcher
  • Streams live press conferences
  • Monitors quality control at every stage of production
  • Streams live video at police emergencies that affect public safety
  • Follows final review and approval processes to ensure content quality and editorial and branding compliance
  • Reports to scenes with commanding officers to provide video support
  • Recommends equipment purchases, upgrades, or replacements
  • Assists with coordinating news media at criminal scenes
  • Modifies or designs equipment and systems to meet production requirements
  • Develops media training “in service” for officers
  • Oversees inventory and orders supplies
  • Provides media “on camera” training for police commanders and other Metro agencies
  • Edits and redacts police body-worn camera footage
  • Maintains, repairs, services, and installs basic video production equipment
  • Produces video content (recorded and live) and uploading to social media
  • Produces recorded and live video productions
  • Performs related work 
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Media Studies, Public Relations, Television Production, or Related field

WORK EXPERIENCE
Four years of experience in video creation, video editing, producing media, or operating video and editing equipment 

EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted

DESIRABLES
  • At least five years professional videography experience, preferably in a television news environment
  • Proficiency with video editing software (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro)
  • Proficiency with posting videos to various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Proficiency with capturing still photography
  • Able to create high-quality graphics to accompany videos
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends
  • If invited to an interview, must provide a resume reel
