Position Summary:

The Digital Video Editor and Producer, KQED Arts is a multimedia storyteller with expertise at creating original and creative video and digital content that connects with and grows audiences of younger, arts and culture-minded folks from around the Bay Area and beyond. The Digital Video Producer/Editor will help produce and edit videos for KQED’s two-time Webby-winning national dance series “If Cities Could Dance” on YouTube and, when needed, other short-form and longer-format documentaries for distribution on multiple platforms.

You will join a small but highly-collaborative team and be involved in all aspects of digital video content creation, from ideation and story development, to production and editing. The ideal candidate has producing experience and is a highly-skilled editor with animation and motion graphic skills, and a track record for creating high-quality, visually-arresting and emotionally moving videos.

This is a full-time regular position. Applicants of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Essential Functions:

Create original, compelling, and creative multimedia video content that informs, engages and inspires audiences
Collaborate with producers and directors to develop story outlines and scripts
Collaborates with audience engagement specialists to understand target audiences
Log and organize media in KQED’s media asset management system
Edit assemblies, rough cuts, and fine cuts using Adobe Premiere Pro
Create animation and motion graphic elements as needed
Perform color correction, sound design, and packaging of final episodes
Provide editorial and creative input on videos produced by colleagues and freelancers
Create promotional videos, trailers and teasers that reflect the energy, voice, style and quality of the team’s work for use internally and externally
Prepare web video compressions, create thumbnail images, animated gifs, and other assets for social media and publicity
Create show deliverables and show masters
Provide information for visual and music cue sheets, and third-party use reports
Research and pitch stories, and source third-party materials, including video, photos and music
Assist in scheduling and organizing shoots
Assist in coordinating and supervising KQED Arts interns, associate producers, on-call producers and editors
Work with animators, illustrators, and composers on additional media elements as needed
Improve and document media workflows and style guides

Knowledge/Experience Required:

Minimum of three years experience as a video producer
Minimum of five years experience as an editor in non-fiction video and filmmaking
Skilled at editing various video formats and styles, including shorts and host and/or character-driven work
Demonstrable grasp of story structure, pacing, and character-development
Experience troubleshooting edit issues, and skilled in color correction and sound mixing using Adobe Creative Suite applications (Premiere, After Effects)
Basic animation and motion graphic skills
Knowledge of editorial principles, ethics and standards
A passion for and demonstrable experience working with artists and culture makers
Demonstrable collaboration skills and experience cultivating sources, access, and partnerships.
Ability to represent KQED to the arts and culture community, other institutions, and public.

Knowledge/Experience Desired

Experience creating for YouTube, Instagram TV and TikTok
A compelling and emotional visual style and editing aesthetics
Experience and skill in creating music videos, trailers, and teasers
Experience editing crowd-sourced and archival video in creative, innovative ways
Experience shooting high-quality video and recording audio for video productions
