Job Description

WTVR, The E.W. Scripps CBS affiliate in Richmond, VA is seeking a Special Projects Photojournalist to join its award-winning team of photographers and editors. In this role you will primarily focus on the production of long-form storytelling and investigations. In addition, same-day general assignment news coverage will be assigned when warranted. This person will be a newsroom leader who is instrumental in assisting the Chief Photographer in the mentoring of photojournalists. 

WTVR has been a finalist for NPPA Medium Market Station of the Year for nine consecutive years, while winning first overall five of the those years (2015, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023).

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Capture and edit visual content with a focus on special projects for multiple platforms.
  • Work with reporters on various franchise packages
  • Participate in planning meetings alongside the Investigative team, and shoot and edit these stories
  • Work with anchors to produce stories that include visual elements of them interacting with members of the community
  • Produce stories with seamless audio, crisp natural sound, and moments that add meaning to them 
  • Operate and maintain live equipment related to news gathering. This will mostly be related to special field anchoring projects
  • Assist the Chief Photographer with face-to-face critiques with individual photographers
  • Utilize a variety of cameras, technologies and advanced lighting techniques to create visually compelling stories.
  • Be a newsroom leader, alongside the Chief Photographer, by inspiring, motivating and coaching the team daily
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • Associates Degree in related discipline preferred
  • Generally 5+ years of experience in related field preferred
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • Proficiency with lighting and computer based editing.
  • Proficiency with live microwave truck operation.
  • Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in posting content to station's web sites.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits.
