Vox is a user’s guide to the news produced by the reporters and subject issue experts who know it best and The Gray Area is our deep-dive conversation podcast, featuring philosophical takes on culture, politics, and everything in between.
We’re looking for a strong producer with experience booking, prepping interviews, and cutting tape to a high standard. You should have the skills to work in a deadline-driven environment, pivot quickly, and pitch and execute ideas that align with the editorial vision. A curious mind and an interest in exploring philosophy, culture, and the “gray areas” of life are must-have qualities.
The ideal candidate should be equally skilled brainstorming and pitching episode ideas, finding and booking the perfect guest, researching and interview prep, scheduling and engineering recording sessions, cutting an episode, pulling clips and coaching the host.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
We’re looking for a strong producer with experience booking, prepping interviews, and cutting tape to a high standard. WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Pitch, book, produce and edit episodes
- Research and prep for interviews in collaboration with the host and guest hosts
- Maintain production calendars, workflow and various projects
- Collaborate with fact checker to ensure accuracy of content, suggest edits where necessary
- Work closely with engineer on final mixes of the show
- Suggest interviews/excerpts to be featured on vox.com
- Ensure shows meet Vox’s high journalistic and creative standards
WHO YOU ARE
- Minimum of 2 years full time experience as an audio producer at a news or media organization working on a podcast or broadcast radio program
- A strong interest or background in philosophy and ideas-driven journalism
- Excitement and willingness to explore a variety of ideological topics
- Strong collaborative skills, as well as the ability prioritize effectively
- Demonstrated experience coaching and prepping host talent
- Experience writing for the ear
- Proficiency in audio editing in ProTools
- Effective at multitasking; flexibility to adapt on short notice
- A passion for explanatory journalism
