Job Description

Uses contacts and sources to develop story ideas and participates actively in the daily planning process within the sports department; must be well versed in local and national sports and be comfortable interviewing sports figures in studio and in the field
Shoots and edits both sports highlights and feature packages
Integrates graphics, video and audio into cohesive packages for use in sportscasts and/or webcasts
Presents stories live in studio and on remote locations assuming all responsibility for the final content and presentation
Line produces daily sportscasts and long-form sports programs as assigned
Writes effective text copy for digital publication of sports stories
Actively contributes to social media accounts on platforms including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram on behalf of the station
Travels on overnight assignments and uses file-based video systems to deliver material back to the station via computer while on assignment
Makes occasional promotional appearances on behalf of the station and must communicate clearly and deal effectively and politely with the public in person, over the phone and via the internet.

Requirements

Must possess exceptional writing skills, be proficient in English grammar, spelling and punctuation and must be able to use conversational broadcast copy style efficiently under daily deadline pressure
Strong leadership qualities within the newsroom are expected
Excellent on-camera delivery and communication skills required
Able to prioritize and work under daily deadline pressure
Experience with commercial drone flight operations preferred
Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Must have or obtain a valid, current passport to allow for international travel
A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a related field preferred.
Two years of experience as a sports reporter from a commercial television station preferred.
At least one year experience shooting and editing sports or news packages at a commercial television station.
