Job Description

The Social Media Manager will partner with the Head of Social to lead all aspects of all social media for Channel 5, covering a broad range of subject areas, including paid and organic, social platform strategy, community management, as well as social analytics and insights.

The role will create and execute innovative and effective social campaigns and content that drive core KPIs of awareness and intent amongst new audiences, and retention among existing viewers. In partnership with the wider Channel 5 teams the Social Media team will develop and deliver best in class locally developed and built social content. The team has direct responsibility for Channel 5 across all social platforms. There is unparalleled autonomy within the team. What will you be doing?
Channel and Community Management
  • Own audience growth across Channel 5’s social media accounts and drive engagement with established communities
  • Lead the editorial strategy and social output, identifying the opportunities to drive audience engagement, talkability around programming and ultimately TV viewing
  • Manage the content planning and publishing for the branded social accounts prioritising Facebook, and using Twitter, Instagram, YouTube or TikTok
  • Curate, write, edit, and publish all social posts ensuring copy is accessible to audiences and optimised for placement
  • Take an active approach interacting with our audiences to drive meaningful conversation
  • Own and manage all paid media efforts for social promotion covering always-on, priority campaigns and affiliate activity (META)
Content Planning and Producing
  • Watch TV shows and identify chances to create social content that drives viewing, conversation or engagement, across owned accounts and for talent activity
  • Write clear and concise content briefs to deliver on-the-fly social content for campaign activity
  • Guide, educate and provide ongoing feedback to internal editors, freelancers and agencies to produce quality social content that is perfect for placement
  • Supervise content production through an established workflow, directing, optimising and completing quality control for creative
  • Build positive relationships with Content teams, Press and Production Companies to unlock access to show material, talent activity and amplification opportunities
Social Analysis & Reporting
  • Lead reporting across channel, content and community activity, finding opportunities to influence and optimise editorial output and test & learn
  • Effectively analyse audience insight and commentary to develop social media activity that targets, engages and gets results
  • Share useful audience feedback with Commissioning, Marketing, Press and Sales to optimise audience experience
  • Share audience feedback with internal teams to optimise the audience experience and showcase the power of social promotion 
Team Collaboration and Leadership
  • Manage one direct report, Social Media Executive
  • Support and lead social video editors and creatives on delivering best-in-class creative
What are we looking for?
Required:
  • Extensive social media management experience
  • Remarkable writing skills and ability to craft creative, clear, and engaging copy with the highest standards of accuracy
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to thrive in fast paced team environment
  • Editorial judgement and demonstrable experience as a creative thinker and problem solver
  • Solid understanding of broader marketing and media disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience managing a brand or channel on Facebook (META)
  • Excellent partner management skills
  • Previous experience independently managing agencies and/or freelancers
  • Previous budget management experience
  • Previous experience handling direct reports
Desirable:
  • Experience working within the Entertainment industry (TV, SVOD, News, Publishing or Brand)
  • Extensive experience with planning and flighting paid social campaigns (META)
  • Knowledgeable about the television or broadcasting industry
  • Experience within a matrixed organisation
  • Demonstrated experience managing an engaged community on Facebook (META)
