Summary

This editor will organize, edit and write for Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist vertical. Working closely with the entertainment teams and the photo and design departments, the editor will ideate, package and execute film and TV FYC stories for print; evaluate ideas from other staffers; assign reporting and writing; edit copy, and contribute writing. The editor will also work closely with the sales and marketing teams to build and execute Entertainment Weekly’s FYC strategy on all platforms. This includes representing Entertainment Weekly as an Awards expert on TV, podcasts, videos and panels. This editor will also work closely with digital leads to oversee digital Awardist content: Handling day-to-day communication with publicists on exclusives, working with writers on roundups and galleries, brainstorming coverage of news, writing or editing all significant digital Awardist stories, and coordinating the rollout of all print Awardist stories online. The position requires excellent editorial judgement, organizational and communications skills, a strong on-camera presence and talent interviewing skills, and the ability to produce quality awards-themed content in an extremely fast-paced environment. A passion for pop culture, awards forecasting and history, strong writing and reporting skills, contacts in the entertainment industry and the ability to work well with a team are required.

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

This editor will organize, edit and write for Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist vertical. Working closely with the entertainment teams and the photo and design departments, the editor will ideate, package and execute film and TV FYC stories for print; evaluate ideas from other staffers; assign reporting and writing; edit copy, and contribute writing. III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

B.A. or equivalent experience.

Experience:
  • 5 years in entertainment journalism, writing or editing experience
  • Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • On-camera experience and a presence in the FYC space
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to oversee many, constantly changing elements during a magazine close
  • Strong creativity and a sense of humor
  • A deep passion for pop culture and Awards races
  • Solid contacts in the entertainment industry to help deliver access stories and report on breaking news
  • Ability to work well in a team amid a very fast-paced environment
