Job Summary/Description:

KBTX is looking for an innovative executive producer to join the award-winning Brazos Valley This Morning team.
This person will report to and work closely with the News Director in shaping and ensuring the execution of digital-first strategy, high impact story development and newscast sophistication. You must be an innovator who can see the big picture, but also a stickler for important details, writing with AP Style and producing error-free work.
We’re looking for a producer who lives for urgent, impactful coverage of what’s new, now and next, and excels in breaking news and weather situations.

The Executive Producer is willing to set new expectations, inspire excellence, and hold the team accountable. You will be a member of the news management team, working with other department managers on major station initiatives. You will also ensure our newsroom is adopting corporate resources and best practices, and that we are a leader within the company and our industry. You are committed to this vision of success. As the Brazos Valley’s dominant #1 news station, you’ll have the largest and latest resources to create a show that resonates with viewers. You’re joining a team of exceptional journalists that are committed to our community and work to make it better, both on and off camera. As executive producer, you will oversee a team of journalists from varied backgrounds on a tight deadline, so strong planning and communication skills are a must. You must approach each assignment with a passion for great, human stories, enjoy and remain active on social media and constantly be competing for the day’s top story. If you have a passion for journalism and a talent for storytelling, this is the job for you. Great writing and a willingness to learn will earn you this position.

Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:

• Research, write and edit daily content for television and web platforms.
• Produce a high-quality, well-paced newscast that resonates with key demographics.
• Train, manage and provide regular feedback to the Brazos Valley This Morning, as well as the newsroom staff at large. You will coach and be a cheerleader inspiring the entire team to produce strong, engaging content.
• Ensure story selection and placement fits newsroom standards for vision and growth.
• Be the “morning voice” and point person ensuring our daily and long-term projects, including special event and breaking news coverage, are multi-dimensional. You will act with urgency and be responsible for setting our coverage tone for the day, while overseeing brand consistency across the daypart.
• Understand our DMA, key target audiences and where they live.

The ideal candidate will have experience producing compelling newscasts in a competitive market and will possess excellent writing skills, solid news judgment, knowledge of AP style and creativity using graphics and video. Experience with ENPS, BitCentral or Edius is a big plus.

Candidates should also exhibit a good work ethic, strong people skills, the ability to be a team player and must maintain a professional attitude at all times. This position requires availability to work weekends, and may require holiday work.
