Job Description

Dynamic Captioning, a Meredith Company, is recruiting for a Closed Captioning Editor. The Offline Editor is a post-production specialist responsible for the transcription, placement, and timing of stylistically accurate captions for pre-recorded television shows and videos.  The Editor will encounter a wide variety of terminology ranging from slang to technical jargon, including localized dialects, and will need to successfully transcribe accordingly.      

Essential Job Functions

80% - Transcribe audio tracks; learn and use captioning software to create and edit closed caption files, including timing, positioning and content of captions.  Complete necessary projects under a strict deadline environment with the ability to be flexible as some overtime will be necessary.   

10% - Develop and use efficient research methods. 

10% - Communicate with vendors and clients. 

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education: High School Diploma required.  Bachelor’s degree in English, Linguistics, Communications, Broadcast or Film & Media Production preferred. 

Experience: Proofreading, editing, research, or writing experience preferred.  Familiarity with broadcast television a plus. 

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform under strict deadlines
  • Ability to type 50+ words per minute
  • Strong command of the English language and exceptional grammar and vocabulary skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with MS Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with Google and associated products
