Job Description
The Costume Buyer is responsible for the research of fabrics, trims and notions for Operational and Entertainment garments, placing orders for fabrics, trims, notions and garments in SAP, and monitoring delivery dates for commodities/components being ordered.
You will report to the Area Manager-Costume Buying.
You Will:
On any given day, as a Costume Buyer, you might:
- Work closely with vendors to develop fabrics the meet all organization requirements & initiatives.
- Monitor warehouse inventory and complete withdrawal transactions as needed.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors.
- Seek new vendors.
- Partner with Entertainment and Costuming Operations to ensure costume quality and design is consistently maintained.
- Adhere to all The Walt Disney Company procurement policies and guidelines.
- Meet customer service requirements for service, quality and value at the lowest total cost.
- Maintain files of signed vendor contracts, requests for proposals and bid exception forms.
- Communicate all production status to Team, Issue, and Line of Business.
- Monitor work assignments and results for a select group of hourly union and/or Office & Technical cast members.
- Research Operational Costuming raw material vendors to satisfy design needs, competitive pricing, consistency and quality.
- Manage obsolescence and disposal of retired raw materials.
- Redevelop and seek approvals for raw materials
- Prepare and publish communication pertaining to additions or deletions of items carried in the raw materials inventory.
You Will Have:
Here's what you'll need to be successful at this job:
- 2+ years of experience in textile sourcing, development or purchasing
- Experience with fabric production and terminology
- Experience working in a role where attention to details is of utmost importance
- Experience working in a team environment where collaboration is key
- Experience in planning, problem-solving, conflict resolution, influencing and negotiating skills
- Experience with communicating with all levels of stakeholders (written and/or verbal)
- Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including extended hours
- Demonstrated self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications:
It would be great if you also have:
- 4+ years of experience in the textile industry
- Demonstrated computer efficiency with SAP & YuniquePLM
- Proven experience in Textiles with focus on the apparel industry
- Proven knowledge of fabrics in their relation to design and construction techniques
- Proven knowledge of international shipping processes and global sourcing
- Garment specification and/or technical specification writing is a plus
Education:
- High school degree or equivalent
Preferred Education
- Advanced degree in Merchandising, Textiles or related field or a minimum of 4 years’ experience in Disney Parks & Resorts Costuming or in the Garment Industry
