Job Description

Job Summary: 

The Houdini Technical Artist in the Halon Virtual Art Department is responsible for coordinating with project teams to create, maintain, and document useable procedural world-building and asset building tools for use in Unreal Engine via Houdini Engine on a range of projects from stylized to photoreal. They’ll also be responsible for testing and debugging Houdini and Unreal Engine issues. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain environment and asset tools in Houdini for world-building and asset-building 
  • Develop and maintain the VAD pipeline between Houdini, Unreal Engine, and Houdini Engine 
  • Lead the charge on researching Houdini procedural solutions 
  • Document tools and processes as they are built 
  • Houdini, Houdini Engine, and Unreal Engine problem solving and troubleshooting 
  • 4+ years of games industry or entertainment industry experience or an extraordinary demo reel 
  • A web portfolio that demonstrates a range of tools and utilities in Houdini, Houdini Engine, and Unreal Engine 
  • Fluent knowledge of VEX or VOPs, Python, and the Hou Module 
  • Experience with PDG, RBD’s, Vellum, Pyro 
  • An understanding of the material editor in Unreal Engine, as well as an understanding of new features coming in UE5 
  • Ability to work within the technical constraints of Unreal engine and optimize procedural content 
  • A passion for film, television, and games 
  • Samples, demonstrations, or documentation of tools pipelines developed to overcome past challenges 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members 
  • Willingness to accept direction, works well under pressure on multiple tasks, and flexible to changes 
  • Must be efficient, reliable, self-motivated and passionate about your work, requiring minimal supervision 
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills 
  • Strong storytelling skills with the ability to work on the fly in a fast paced environment 
  • Must have reasonable internet speed at home and be able to remote in from a personal PC to a company-owned PC 
  • (Bonus) Understanding of Photogrammetry and Reality Capture a plus 
  • (Bonus) Experience with Gaea, World Creator, World Machine, or equivalent terrain software 
  • (Bonus) Experience with Virtual Production and LED volume filmmaking
