Juilliard: The Properties Carpenter and Artisan works as a collaborative member of our Prop team in support of Juilliard’s robust performance season, building props as assigned by the Properties Supervisor and the Assistant Properties Supervisor. Note that this is a seasonal, 41 week contract position.

Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Constructs/creates props in various media, including wood, metal, plastics, soft goods, and electrical.
- Reinforce, alter, or adapt existing items to unusual use.
- Actively engage in creatively addressing challenges.
- Communicate with Supervisor and Assistant concerning construction needs and deadlines.
- Assist in the estimating of materials needed for projects.
- Research materials and techniques.
- Repair or restore items as needed.
- Respond to notes on projects in rehearsal.
- Work on prop load-ins, strikes, and other prop- moving events.
- Work closely with prop apprentices; assist in their training and development.
- Maintain shop tools and assist in procuring replacement parts as needed.
- Update inventory of tools and supplies as directed by Assistant Supervisor.
- Build or repair storage devices.
- Assist in the maintenance and inventory of storage areas.
- Assist in safety coordination and training.
- Assist in reviewing SDS file on construction materials.
- Fulfill maintenance duties on a daily, weekly, and yearly basis in the prop shop, and ancillary spaces with particular emphasis on main shop and supply room.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required:
- Three years experience in a professional prop shop or equivalent.
- Ability to work within a team and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
- Skilled in Finish Carpentry
- Welding
- Upholstery
- Ability to multi-task.
- Furniture repair and restoration.
- Valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated commitment to culture of Health and Safety
- Understanding of the mission of The Juilliard School as well as the School’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Willingness to participate in Juilliard’s inclusive policies and help promote a safe space.
- Computer literate
Preferred:
- Experience working with students or interns helpful
- Experience in construction of gadgetry/contraptions.
- Scenic painting experience a plus.
- Photoshop
Salary Range:
$50,000 - $52,000
