Job Description

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.                                                                                                                                  

• Assists Executive Editor with content creation, story concept planning, and execution of Beautiful Kitchens & Baths and other home design magazines, bookazines, digital products, or other initiatives.

• Provides day-to-day support for MPP home design titles, and other projects as assigned. This includes writing, editing, product research and sourcing, front-of-book story development, assisting with studio photography, and liaising with PR and manufacturer representatives in the home design industry.

• Assists with digital and social media initiatives as assigned.

II. Essential Job Functions

Weight % Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

50% Assists Executive Editor with two issues annually of Beautiful Kitchens & Baths, and other home design publications as assigned, including writing, editing, A&E content development, product research, and fact-checking.

25% Works with MPP Home staff to develop story concepts. Writes front-of-book and main-edit stories as assigned. Sources products for photography. Assists with proofing and routing story layouts. Stays abreast of industry trends through attending trade shows, product previews and by contacting media reps.

15% Supports executive editor and senior editors with tasks including tracking, budgeting, contracts, searching and downloading assets, and other tasks as assigned.

10% Contributes to digital and social media initiatives, including collaborating with BHG.com on digital projects 

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Four-year college degree, preferably in Journalism, English, or Interior Design, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

Four years professional or college-publication experience writing and editing magazines, books or newspaper articles, web site editing, or directly related experience.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of—or demonstrated interest in—home decorating and design, do-it-yourself projects, or related field is preferred. Interest in online design/decorating websites and blogs is a plus. Good writing and communications skills, organizational ability, and creative thinking are essential. Familiarity with Mac computers and desktop publishing software is highly preferred.

% Travel Required (Approximate): Minimal travel.
